14:30 PM. Bilgoraj. Finding the house where Sarah Avinun was
born:
[written testimony of Michael Avinun Kalish, daughter of Sarah Avinun] ...
those of us who wanted, could use the afternoon to eat or to find a lost
address in town, we went with Emuna, Moses Pack and his daughter Mira, my
mother, Orly, Rani zory and me. We already understood that what was once
Rajenska Street is apparently now Monushki Street. Moses said Mom's house was
just across the intersection. We had the latest map. Given to Moses to lead us
from his memory, He refused to look at the map, but really took us close to
where was supposed to be the intersection with Shevsaka street, he came up to
monushki street. Went a bit farther and then came back and stood in his place.
His memory is amazing! Across the street there was an empty ground and one
square building made of stone behind it, something that lookd old. We crossed
the road, hesitantly entered the empty ground. Some people started to look at
what we are doing at their yard. We might probably disturb them in their
Sunday afternoon. Young people approached us and asked what we were looking
for, they said that there was an old warehouse, perhaps this square building,
and courtyard at the other side of the fence, some older people approached and
said that this area was inhabited by Jews. One of the neighbors who's Yard was
closer to the warehouse, came out into the street and towards us in the open
field. He was a fountain of knowledge. He said that his mother told him all
about the street people. He confirmed that the building we saw in the back was
the warehouse of Varshaviak; he claimed that he was 60 but he looked less. We
found the slope that Zvi and Shimek were sliding on, toward the creek. We went
to the front of the stone building behind the warehouse; it looked like a
construction site. Then suddenly came out another guy, he looked too young to
be the owner of that property. But we found out that he is renovating the
warehouse and turns it into his residence. He opened the gate, once we found
out that he speaks good English he gave us plenty of explanations that we
could understand. The stories were amazing, now he is building his home there,
using the foundations and walls remained almost intact, even some original
ceiling. The warehouse was large indeed, as mother remembered; he divides it
into two floors without further elevation of the original space ... his
maternal grandfather, called Shturkman or a similar Jewish name, lived a few
houses down the street, and was a butcher. He said that all street (who was
Jewish) bought only from him ... He has also had a bar that sold beer in the
town square. Moshe pack has mentioned
earlier such a place, which was owned by Jews. Was his grandfather Jewish?
Moshe pack went with the older man, who showed him the exact spot where his
house stood. Then the young man brought an old picture of the house across the
street and gave it to Moses. all of us were very excited. All the stories and
memories of Moses were verified and matched with what the older man knew, the
orchard, the pump, even more than that. He not only knew about the family of
Moses, but even knew about his sister and her family being shot... when he
mentioned it, without any prior reminder on our part; it was a chilling moment
